Innovating for
energy abundance.
Cholla Energy pursues energy abundance by securing land and power to support big energy consumers—and then changing the way they think about power consumption in the first place.
Building the future of power for flexible computing
The idea is fairly simple. Bitcoin miners and data centers consume significant amounts of energy. After that, the similarities seem to end. Traditionally, data centers have required near-constant uptime. In a pioneering shift, Bitcoin miners within the ERCOT grid have embraced hyper-scale demand response. By reducing their energy consumption when the power supply is scarce, they are to significantly reduce their power bill and improve gird reliability. This strategy not only lowers operational expenses but also enhances the reliability and affordability of the grid for all stakeholders, demonstrating a mutual benefit and a valuable tool for grid operators.
Through our experience, partnerships, R&D we are applying our learnings to the emerging parallel processing compute needs of AI data centers. For the right kind of data center, curtailing supports the grids reliability while improving commercial operations for data centers.
Ultimately, we envision the evolution of a new type of data center—one driven by innovative computing methods and powered by a grid-centric approach that enhances reliability and efficiency for latency-insensitive computing, benefiting both business and grid stakeholders.
Flexible and parallel-processing data centers
Thanks to our deep understanding of ERCOT and West Texas, we acquire raw land for data center development within the DFW submarket adjacent to the largest transmission switching stations. Our aim is to de-risk the development process for our partners—and create new more mutually beneficial power strategies for the future.
Bitcoin mining load centers
Cholla Energy is investing in substations to create a ready infrastructure for Bitcoin operators. Our research and development have proven that curtailing energy consumption can dramatically reduce costs and improve the economics of energy systems that improves the reliability and affordability of power supplied to grid stakeholders
“My grandad had a 6th grade education, but he knew how to work. He recognized that partnering with others was the best way to better his circumstances. At Cholla, we don’t give a damn about pedigree. If you have an idea—and you possess grit, humility, and the desire to better yourself and your community—we want to succeed with you.”
